Cookie Policy

1. What cookies are

Cookies are small pieces of data a site stores on your device so it can recognise your browser on the next request. This policy also covers similar technologies that behave the same way — in our case, browser local storage.

How we handle any personal data that reaches us through them is described in our Privacy Policy.

2. Who sets them

First-party cookies are set by geometrymappingtool.com itself. They are the ones that keep you signed in and remember your preferences.

Third-party cookies are set by another company whose service we use — for us, Google (analytics) and Stripe (payments). Those companies determine their own cookies and we cannot read them on their behalf.

3. The categories we use

Strictly necessary — required for the site to work at all, so they do not need your consent:

  • The NextAuth session cookie keeps you signed in.
  • sidebar_state remembers whether you left the sidebar open.
  • NEXT_LOCALE remembers the language you chose.
  • gmt-consent, stored in your browser’s local storage, remembers your cookie choice so we do not ask again on every visit. We ask again after 7 days.

4. Analytics cookies — only if you accept

If you accept, Google Analytics sets cookies such as _ga and _ga_* to measure how the tool is used, so we can see which parts help people and which do not.

Analytics runs under Google Consent Mode. Until you accept, analytics storage is denied and no analytics cookie is written — the default is set before Google Analytics is configured, not after.

We do not use advertising or targeting cookies, and we do not build advertising profiles.

5. How long they last

Session cookies are deleted when you close your browser. Persistent cookies stay until they expire or you delete them: our sign-in session lasts about 30 days, the sidebar preference about 7 days, and Google’s analytics cookies up to 2 years, as set by Google.

6. Changing or withdrawing your choice

The banner shown on your first visit lets you accept or reject analytics, and rejecting is as easy as accepting — as Article 22.2 of Spanish Law 34/2002 (LSSI-CE) and the AEPD’s cookie guidance require.

You can change your mind at any time by clearing the gmt-consent entry from your browser’s local storage for this site, which makes the banner appear again on your next visit.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings — every major browser (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, and their mobile versions) offers this. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will stop you from signing in and will break parts of the site.

7. Transfers outside the EEA

Cookies we set ourselves do not leave our infrastructure. Data collected through Google Analytics and Stripe cookies may be processed outside the European Economic Area, under the safeguards described in section 6 of our Privacy Policy.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Cookie Policy when the cookies we use change. The current version is always on this page, with the date it last changed shown above. Questions: info@geometrymappingtool.com.
